What a solar inverter does
Your solar panels produce direct current (DC) electricity. Your home and the grid run on alternating current (AC). The inverter converts one to the other — and it’s also the brain of your system, managing output and reporting how much you’re generating.
Because it works hard every day, the inverter is usually the first component to need replacing.
Signs your inverter needs attention
- Fault or error lights, or a blank display
- Your monitoring app shows zero or much lower generation than usual
- Your power bills have increased without a change in usage
- The inverter is making unusual noises or getting very hot
- Your system is more than about 10 years old and showing its age
Inverter replacement and upgrades
We’ll diagnose the problem, check your panels and wiring, and recommend the right fix:
- Like-for-like replacement — a quality inverter matched to your existing array
- Hybrid inverter upgrade — ready for a solar battery now or in the future
- System upgrade — replacing the inverter and adding panels at the same time if your system is undersized
All installs are completed by accredited installers, with monitoring set up so you can see your system working.
Upgrading an older system
If your solar was installed years ago, technology has moved on. A new inverter can lift performance, add monitoring and make your system battery-ready. If you’re considering new solar panels as well, we’ll tell you honestly whether an upgrade or a new system makes more sense.
